Iraq Supports Trump’s Gaza Proposal
In a statement released on X, Iraq's Ministry of Foreign Affairs lauded Trump’s proposals, emphasizing key points such as halting hostilities, rebuilding Gaza, preventing the expulsion of Palestinians, and opposing any potential annexation of the West Bank.
The ministry voiced hope that the plan would alleviate the suffering of Gazans and facilitate the unrestricted flow of humanitarian aid, while also preventing any efforts to displace local populations.
Meanwhile, Qatar confirmed on Tuesday that the Palestinian militant group Hamas received Trump's proposed plan late Monday through intermediaries and assured it would review the terms "responsibly."
A coalition of foreign ministers from Türkiye, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Egypt issued a joint statement on Monday expressing confidence in Trump’s ability to pave a path toward peace.
The same day, Trump outlined a 20-point framework to end Israel’s military campaign in Gaza during a White House press briefing with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Key provisions of the plan include the release of all Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian detainees, the total disarmament of Hamas, a phased Israeli troop withdrawal, and the establishment of a neutral, technocratic Palestinian committee to govern Gaza.
Though the plan proposes a potential route toward Palestinian self-determination and statehood, it stops short of offering a definitive guarantee.
Since the onset of the conflict in October 2023, the Israeli Defense Forces have killed over 66,100 Palestinians, the majority of whom are women and children. Gaza's infrastructure has been decimated, leaving the region uninhabitable, while widespread famine and disease continue to claim lives.
