Turkish Activist Alleges Greta Thunberg Tortured by Israel
Ersin Celik, one of the individuals detained during the incident, returned to Istanbul and spoke to a news agency, stating that Israeli military personnel subjected the 22-year-old Thunberg to humiliating abuse while she was held in custody.
“They (Israeli forces) severely tortured Greta before our eyes,” Celik stated. “They persecuted her -- Greta is just a little child. They made her crawl and made her kiss the Israeli flag. They did exactly what the Nazis did once.”
The activists, who were part of the aid flotilla, arrived in Turkey on a flight Saturday afternoon after being held in Israel.
The aircraft left from Ramon Airport in Eilat and landed at Istanbul Airport at 3:50 p.m. local time (1250 GMT).
A total of 137 individuals from the flotilla were aboard the plane, including 36 citizens of Turkey and 23 from Malaysia.
It remains uncertain whether Thunberg has been expelled from Israel or remains detained.
She had previously joined the Madleen, one of the vessels attempting to transport humanitarian supplies to Gaza by sea in June, which was halted by the Israeli navy.
